Welcome To The 2007 - 2008 Season at The Hall!
Some of the most exciting things at the Music Hall happened
backstage this summer!
And this fall, making its ground-breaking Music Hall debut, it’s
…… a freight elevator?
For 130+ years, all the equipment on our stage is either carried
up 3-floors of stairs or is brought in on a hook using a chain
hoist. In fair weather and foul, IATSE Union riggers carefully load
everything from heavy road cases to 9-foot long grand pianos onto
that hook and away they go up 30-feet and into the Music Hall.
While we are very proud of the tenacity and ingenuity of our crew
and visiting artists, it is time to bring the Music Hall into the 20th
century (now, we don’t want to move too fast). Located in the
building next door to the Music Hall, this new elevator has made
possible a 1,500 square foot expansion of backstage, creating
dressing rooms, storage and much needed warm-up areas for 50+
visiting artists.
What does that mean to our community? That means artists who
bypass visiting the Hall will soon be gracing this stage. Tours that
travel with large amounts of equipment can now bring their gear in
safely and quickly. Legendary artists who could not physically
manage the stairs backstage now have wheelchair access to the
stage. For the Albany Symphony Orchestra, they will not have to
rent a truck to store road cases that won’t fit backstage at the
Hall. Student performers with the Empire State Youth Orchestra now
have room to warm-up backstage before their concerts. And this
season, that means artists John Prine and Queen Latifah will take
center stage at the Hall.
We are grateful to have so many partners committed to insuring
the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall stays a viable and vital part of
the cultural life of our community. This century-long dream is now a
reality, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of – first and
foremost - the Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation with
substantial support from First Niagara Bank, New York State Council
on the Arts, New York State Legislative Grant (Senator Joseph A.
Bruno) and the Howard and Bush Foundation. We are also thankful to
Envision Architects, Architecture+ and Rosch Brothers Construction
for making this project a success.
Join
us for another fantastic season in the place where artistic and
acoustic excellence meet – the legendary Troy Saving Bank Music
Hall.
