The Lift Concert Series presents performances of new, independent music featuring regional performers, curated by Organ Colossal: Sam Torres and Sophia Subbayya Vastek. The audience is invited to be seated on stage, with the musicians, creating an intimate concert experience. Concerts are designed to last about an hour and, after the performance, concert-goers are encouraged to enjoy the rest of the evening at one of Troy’s many restaurants or breweries.
Singer, songwriter, and producer Nandi Rose writes and records under the name Half Waif. Over the past decade, she has built upon her classical training to create a bold and unique sound that melds pop and folk songwriting styles with experimental production and arrangements. Touching on themes of home, generational pain, and the balance between independence and interdependence, her richly layered electronic compositions are a form of emotional storytelling that is radically vulnerable and fiercely honest. Since joining the roster of renowned indie label ANTI- Records (Tom Waits, Fleet Foxes, Mavis Staples), Nandi has released the critically acclaimed records The Caretaker (2020) and Mythopoetics (2021), the latter of which was described by the New York Times as a “chordal anthem” and featured on their Best Songs of the Year list. Nandi has also made an appearance on NPR’s Tiny Desk series and toured internationally. She currently lives in the Hudson Valley of Upstate New York, where she is working on her latest record as well as her first book.
