His slapstick humor and outstanding musicianship have made musical satirist and composer Peter Schickele, better known as P.D.Q. Bach, an icon for music lovers. His humor introduced classical music to generations. And now, P.D.Q Bach is back with a newly commissioned work, The Simply Grand Concerto for Piano and Orchestra.
Taking the musical helm at the piano for this outstanding New York premiere is a pianist Leonard Bernstein deemed “a splendid musician and brilliant performer.” Jeffrey Biegel joins the full strength of the ESYO Youth Orchestra on stage to perform the piece, which is complete with P.D.Q. Bach’s characteristic laugh-out-loud humor and inventive playing. It is a work that was specially commissioned in part by Empire State Youth Orchestra (ESYO) and has already received rave reviews across the country.
The evening will also include a performance of Prokofiev’s joyous Symphony No. 5. by the region’s premiere youth orchestra, ESYO Youth Orchestra.
